We have now come to the second solar term of Spring. With the rise in temperature, and the increase of
moisture in the air, there will be more rain during this time. The temperature still changes quite drastically,
so it’s important to wear in layers and keep warm. The cold and dampness in the atmosphere can easily
enter the body through the lower part of the body. Wearing long pants, socks and covering the ankle
and knee are ways to protect yourself from it.
Spring correlates with Liver Wood. and based on the Five Element restriction cycle, it restrains Spleen Earth,
The Spleen dislikes dampness, therefore during this solar term with the high moisture, it's important to take care
of the Spleen and Stomach.
How to Maintain -- Skin Rejuvenation
During the Winter time, the skin can be dry and without radiant. With Spring here, it may be a bit rough or allergic.
Therefore, it’s good to exfoliate and massage the skin to remove the old skin, and promote better circulation to allow
faster metabolism of the waste and old cells. Doing so is like loosening the soil , allowing the nutrients to be better
absorbed and all the skin care products can then do its job, giving the skin its natural glow.
Diet
Having a healthy Spleen and Stomach allows the body to have good metabolism and nutrient absorption, which
leads to a strong immune system. To nourish the Spleen and Stomach, having a good eating habit is the first priority.
It’s important to eat on time and be in a good mood while eating; chew slowly, avoid being too full or too hungry.
Choose digestible, low-irritating foods.
During this solar term, eating foods of this season and consume fruits and vegetables such as: Chinese yam, millet,
radish, leek, toona sinensis, garland chrysanthemum, onion, taro, sweet potato, pumpkin, sugar cane, strawberry,
mini tomato, etc.
For tea, can take longan date tea, jasmine tea, etc.
It’s best to avoid cold, raw foods, overly oily or heavy foods, spicy foods. Minimal sweets.

Lifestyle
Besides covering the lower parts of the body and having a good eating habit to prevent dampness entering the
body and removing dampness from the body, exercising is also important. Just like diet, exercise is also about
being part of the daily routine. Staying persistent is key. Setting a time to take walks is a great way to move the
whole body. If you have concerns about going outdoors, then you can do full body stretches at home (if you
have indoor exercise machines, can use them as well). With all of the above plus a good night’s sleep, it keeps
the body strong and protected from diseases.
Tip: after meals, you can massage acupressure point ST44 (located between the second and third toe).
This helps with digestion and can improve acid reflux.
